Jeanann’s Favorite Person of the Month
Welcome to a new blog series featuring my favorite person/persons of the month!
Showing some love just in time for Valentine’s Day…
Allow me to introduce you to my favorite persons of the month with this short story.
Nine years ago I was sitting in my, seven years and counting, studio and was feeling the crazy stress of the digital era that I was entering. I had been photographing with film since the age of 18, and I come from a generation of artists. I’m not persuaded easily just to go with the flow, but anyways, I flipped open a Rangefinder magazine and saw this article of a young 23-year-old male starting his career using film. I was so blown away by his courage, photography and color of his photographs, I just called him up and said, “Hi, I’m Jeanann, you don’t know me, but I’m in love with your work and we are going to be best friends!!!” He laughed and we proceeded talking a long while. I attended his first photography workshop in Guadalajara, Mexico where I would wake up each morning, walk out of my 1800’s hacienda room, pick an orange from the tree wearing my hacienda slippers and head to class. Then I was introduced to his fantastic, talented partner who is a cinematographer, creating with film. Little did I know we were developing the most amazing friendship you could ever ask for. NOW, fast forward nine years and we have traveled all over the world photographing together…
So it is with great pleasure and LOVE that I am pleased to select author of “Fine Art Wedding Photography,” Jose Villa, and Joel Serrato as my very first favorite persons of the month.
J & J getting some R & R
Watching them work together is seamless!
The support they have for one another is awesome to see and I know there is nothing more rewarding than being able to create together, side by side.
Working with Jose and Joel has truly been a blessing to me and my career and I’m inspired every time I get the honor to be with them.
While we were in Sardinia, Italy there was something that happened that I will never forget. Jose asked the hotel manager to take the drapes down in order to create the perfect backdrop for the wedding invitation suite. He found a perfect spot next to the hotel pool where the Sardinia managers were looking through the window horrified that he was laying their drape on the ground. Of course I loved every minute of it! His attention to detail is the reason he is one of the top wedding photographers in the world.
These images are a few behind the scene shots from the wedding we did in Korea. He asked the bride and groom to rent a studio; he had a “great idea.” He told me he wanted to do this inspiration design that he saw in Vogue of this amazing hand built wooden stage as a backdrop. He takes risks, and thinks outside of the box. Where most photographers will work with what they have, Jose will make what he wants!
No matter how long it takes, Joel & Jose will spend hours to create something and make it beautiful and perfect for their clients.
I am so excited to call these two amazing artists my friends and I am always honored to work along side them.
All my best in 2015 J & J
